At its recently concluded annual strategy sharing summit Nokia showcased Lumia 525, which will be available in the market from the first week of January. Though the Finnish handset company has not revealed it’s price but it is expected to be around Rs 10,000. Here is our first impression of the device.
Specs
Nokia Lumia 525 has a 4 inch IPS LCD display with 800 x 480 pixel resolution. This 9.9 mm thick smartphone has a 1 GHz Snapdragon S4 dual core processor and 1 GB RAM. It has 8 GB internal storage and a 64 GB expandable storage slot.
The Lumia 525 has a 1430 mAh battery, which is claimed to provide 14 days of standby, or 16.9 hours’ 2G talktime, or 10.6 hours of 3G talktime. The 3G handset has WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and micro USB 2.0 for connectivity. There is a 5 megapixel rear camera with f/2.4 Aperture in the Lumia 525. However, it has no flash.
How is Nokia Lumia 525 different from Lumia 520
If we do a quick comparison of Lumia 525 with Lumia 520 the major difference between the two is RAM, and minor difference between the two is in their design.
As mentioned earlier Nokia Lumia 525 has 1 GB RAM, whereas Lumia 520 has 512 MB RAM. As a result of this beefing up one will be able to download some apps and games from the Windows Phone Store, which was not possible earlier. It would not be wrong to say that Lumia 525 is a replacement of Lumia 520 with upgraded RAM.

Look and feel
In terms of look and feel Nokia Lumia 525 has a glossy finish and will be available in black, orange, yellow and white colours. It has a removable back panel under which there are slots for a micro SIM, and for an SD card that can be used to expand memory up to 64 GB.
Nokia 525’s back panel has a slight arch design with smooth corners, which makes it easy to hold as it seamlessly fits into the curvature of the palm.
Display and camera
Nokia Lumia 525 has a 4 inch IPS display. During our brief interaction with the device we found the display bright and much better than the display of other smartphones, which are available in the Rs 10-12,000 bracket.
As far as the camera is concerned I liked the quality of pictures taken in good light, but while taking pictures in low light (at the venue I has struggling to find a place with low light) I did miss flash. I will share my in-depth views on camera once we do the review of Lumia 525.
First take
Nokia Lumia 525 has a simple design and yet it looks beautiful in the four vibrant colours in which it is going to be launched. It is almost like Lumia 520 with better RAM and in my opinion there is no harm in continuing with the design philosophy of a smartphone that has got a good response from customers.
Overall Nokia Lumia 525 looks like a good device and if it is priced at under Rs 10,000 it will definitely be worth considering. At this moment, I will neither recommend the device nor advise against it because only looks don’t matter and we will be able to comment on its performance when we review the device in the coming days.
