Chinese handset major, Huawei today claimed that it will launch its first 5G enabled smartphones in the second half of 2019.
The device is to come with Huawei’s own 5G chip and will be launched in the third quarter of 2019.
While speaking at global analyst summit – HAS 2018, Huawei’s Chairman Eric Xu said: “5G is just another product line at Huawei. It is a natural evolution of the technology – from 2G to 3G to 4G and now 5G.”
Not much is known at this point of time about the 5G smartphone. However, Huawei is not the only one to be working on a 5G smartphone. Rival Chinese handset players like Vivo, Xiaomi, HMD, Sony, LG, HTC, Oppo and ZTE are also reportedly working on 5G smartphones based on Qualcomm’s X50 5G NR modem.
In India authorities are yet to decide on 5G network. Debt-laden telecos have been arguing for a delayed auction of 5G spectrum. So do not expect 5G phones to get launched in India any sooner. Anyway, most says that the consumer experience between true 4G and 5G may not be that distinguishable.
