The social network has been harping about its mobile-centric strategy to reach out to billions of individuals across the globe. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, at the investors call confirmed of having 1 billion active mobile user base and Facebook-owned Instagram has 200 million active mobile users.
Facebook has been making advances to get billions of users to access the Facebook service through mobile devices. The Facebook mobile App for the Android and iOS platforms goes through constant changes in order to be faster and more native. Also, the Facebook Messenger has been updated with new user interface and better performance.
Three months ago, Facebook had formally shared that the social network had 945 million active mobile users accessing the service. And today, the company confirmed of having 1 billion active mobile users on-board.
Facebook has been actively working to push its reach to more consumers by partnering with Indian Telecom Operators. Earlier today, Facebook and Aircel (hyperlink) joined hands to offer free Facebook access in nine different languages for two months to new Aircel Mobile Subscribers.
Select Telecom operators have partnered with Facebook to offer custom Access Packs that let the users access Facebook at a subsidized data cost. However, these packs are available mostly for the pre-paid mobile subscribers contributing to more than 85 percent of Indian mobile subscribers base.
Facebook has certainly crossed yet another milestone with 1 Billion active mobile users accessing the service. However the efforts to make the Facebook apps more native, fast and easy on resources will be the work in progress.
