Disney is well known worldwide for bringing out extensive comics collection, and now this is available on Disney Comics App for iOS devices. The Disney comic app itself was released on Friday, and the first batch of offering consists of 50 comics, short stories, and graphic novels.
The stories include the classic ones starring Mickey Mouse and new stories such as Cars 2 and Toy Stories. This is the first time Disney is bringing its comics, all available in one place. The first batch is only a small fraction of total 25000 pages of comics created each year, and the company will be releasing two new titles every week.
“Comics are a tremendous part of our heritage and we see great potential and interest in bringing our extensive catalog of Disney Comics to mobile devices,” said Russell Hampton, President, Disney Publishing Worldwide. “We create over 25,000 original comic pages each year and it’s critical that we deliver this content to our readers around the world. We have 1 billion Disney comic readers around the world, and our Disney Comics App will further broaden that audience.”
The reading experience for the users can be customized for both the portrait and landscape modes, and the pages can either be turned manually or automatically. Additional features include sound effects and Facebook sharing. Users are also allowed to preview the comic before they buy it, and they can save the comic on the device for offline reading as well.
The Disney Comics app itself is available for free but comics themselves will have to be purchased through in app purchases, $0.99 for individual stories and $3.99 for packaged bundles.
