Dell has canceled the launch of one of its upcoming Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update running device, which was codenamed as Wrigley. WPCentral, quoting a high-level executive from Dell, said that company has dropped its plans to release Wrigley handset and won’t be offering Mango update devices. Meanwhile, Dell will continue to offer support for Dell Venue Pro smartphone.
When Microsoft announced new hardware partners to join the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango bandwagon, Dell was surprisingly missing from the list. As per the leaked roadmap of Dell smartphones, Dell Wrigley was supposed to launch this year with 4-inch WVGA (800×480) display, 8 Megapixel camera capable of 720p HD recording and Windows Phone 7.5 Mango.
But the confirmation from Dell about dropping the device launch plans is bit shocking. Also Dell won’t be releasing any “Mango” update running devices even next year.
Dell had released Venue Pro in India earlier this year but after that there have been no developments in the Windows Phone front. There is no clarity on whether Dell has permanently dropped plans to deliver Windows Phone devices or a self-imposed hiatus.
When Microsoft announces Windows Phone 8 Apollo, we may expect Dell to join the hardware partners’ gang. Quite likely that Dell will come with Windows 8 running tablets or slates too. But there is no confirmation on either of that.
Nonetheless, Dell will continue to offer support for Venue Pro, so those who have bought the device in India need not worry.
