Cyanogen, which is popular for its Android based operating systems, has announced that it is working on devices priced below $75 or approximately Rs 5,000.
As per the company, it is working with various OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to develop the phones, which will run on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow based Cyanogen 13.
Cyanogen’s co-founder and chief technology officer, Steve Kondik revealed this while speaking at the Big Android BBQ Europe event. He also added that the company is working on a flagship device too.
Currently, Cyanogen has an exclusive tie-up with Micromax’s subsidiary Yu to sell Cyanogen OS based smartphones in India. Yu Yunique is their cheapest offering at Rs 4,999 that comes with Cyanogen 12.1. For detailed specs, click here. Last year, OnePlus was thus forced to stop selling its devices with Cyanogen OS in India after the Micromax-Cyanogen deal. So even if Cyanogen comes with more cheap devices with its OS, it may not sell them in India if they won’t be from the Micromax’s stable.
