Cyanogen, which is known as the developer of one of the best custom ROMs – Cyanogenmod, will bring Microsoft’s Cortana for OnePlus One users residing in India. Cyanogen announced this on its blog post.
“We’re happy to announce that we’re launching Cortana in India on Cyanogen OS first,” said Cyanogen on its blog post.
This integration of Cortana is majorly due to Cyanogen’s partnership with Microsoft last year.
According to the Cyanogen’s official website, Microsoft Cortana has been integrated at the system level using the Mod framework. Moreover, you don’t need to operate the touch screen to navigate; the ‘Hey Cortana’ hot word detection wakes up the device and lets you customise functions like set alarms, toggle WiFi and Bluetooth, and even take selfies.
For those who are not aware, Cortana is Microsoft’s own digital voice assistant and is similar to Apple’s Siri and Google Now. Cortana first debuted with the Windows 10 update last year and gradually made way to other platforms as well. For ‘CyanogenMod’, Cortana first came in January 2016 but now it will also be available for OnePlus One users in India.
To update, users need to run on CyanogenMod 13.1 and download the update when one gets a notification for the same. CyanogenMod and OnePlus didn’t have the best of partnerships as soon both the companies ran into trouble which saw OnePlus ditching Cyanogen for its own built OxygenOS to run on its flagship devices. However, OnePlus One still getting Cyanogen updates.
