Coolpad yesterday announced yet another budget oriented smartphone – Coolpade Note 5 with the name ‘The Beast’ and at a price of Rs 10,999 which is where it directly competes against Lenovo’s K4 Note which is priced similar to the Coolpad’s Note 5. Though it’s been quite a while since K4 Note was launched, Let’s compare these two and see if Coolpad’s Note 5 can stand the current competition.
Design and Display
Starting with the design, Lenovo’s K4 Note takes a lot of design elements from its predecessor. The device is build on a metal frame with polycarbonate soft touch back. A fingerprint scanner is also there at the back. Up front, there is a 5.5 inch 1080 x 1920 pixels IPS LCD Display protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
While, the new Coolpad Note 5 looks somewhat identical to Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3. The 5.5 inch 1080p IPS LCD display is covered by a beautifully designed metal uni-body design which gives the phone a premium feel. A fingerprint scanner at the back is present here as well.
Processor
Both the devices promises high performance at less price. The Lenovo’s K4 Note sports a Octa-core Mediatek MT6753 Chipset clocked at 1.3 GHz with Mali T720MP3 GPU for graphics and 3GB RAM for multi-tasking. On the other hand, the new Coolpad Note 5 features an Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 chipset clocked at 1.5 Ghz with Adreno 405 GPU for graphics and 4GB RAM. While Lenovo K4 Note is now upgradable to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Coolpad’s Note 5 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
Camera
In the camera department, the things come pretty close. Both the devices features a 13 Megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 Aperture and LED flash. Both the cameras can shoot 1080p video at 30fps. Up front, there is an 8 megapixel camera on Coolpad’s Note 5 with f/2.2 aperture and a 5 megapixel camera on Lenovo’s K4 Note with f/2.2 aperture. There is also a front facing LED flash on Coolpad Note 5. Well, Camera performance depend a lot on image Sensors and image processing technology used so it is too early to comment about the camera on Coolpad’s Note 5.
Storage and Memory
Lenovo’s K4 Note comes with 16GB internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB via micro SD card. Moreover, it has a dedicated microSD card slot for expansion. On the other hand, Coolpad Note 5 comes with 32GB internal storage which is expandable up to 64GB via microSD card. Both the devices come with Dual SIM capabilities but Coolpad’s Note 5 features a hybrid SIM slot where as Lenovo’s K4 Note has a separate Dual SIM slot and micro SD card.
Battery and Connectivity
In the battery department, Coolpad Note 5 takes away the win quite easily with its 4010 mAh battery when compared to Lenovo K4 Note which has 3300 mAh battery. Apparently, the battery life on the Coolpad Note 5 will be much better.
The usual connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS are there. Notably, both the phones sport a Micro USB port instead of recently famous USB Type-C port.
Wrapping Up
Coolpad Note 5 certainly has the features which can help stand in this segment apart from an old processor. Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 is certainly not a Processor to be included with the likes of Redmi Note 3 in the same category. On the other hand, the battery life and an extra GB of RAM on the Coolpad Note 5 is definitely an advantage. Further, a better front facing camera is also a plus point for selfie lovers. All in all, on paper Coolpad Note 5 seems to be better except the processor but that won’t be a problem if you are not a heavy user.
