Facebook is aiming at more users throughout the world, and it is looking at about a billion probable Facebook users. When techies all over the world were building smartphones so people could access Internet from their mobiles, Facebook thought beyond and delivered. The social network Facebook would now be available in less developed parts of the world.
Henri Moissinac, head of mobile business, Facebook says, “Gemalto has developed a creative solution in Facebook for SIM that enables people without Mobile Data plans to stay connected to their friends on Facebook in an affordable way.”
Facebook was quick to realise that while the smartphone market was thriving, a large majority of users still connected to each other through feature phones. The social network has now been built into the SIM card itself, so there is no need for users to buy a smartphone to connect to Facebook.
So even the people who use basic phones can rejoice now and share their thoughts, update status through their own phones. The method of delivering Facebook on SIM has been created by Gemalto. The feature phone users can now send friend requests, wall posts or post messages through the phone. The other functions which are available include direct log in from the SIM application.
The interactive Facebook messages pop up directly on the screen so the users can keep themselves abreast with the latest happening in their Facebook accounts. Users can also search their SIM phone books to look for their friends on the Facebook.
