BSNL to offer 50 times cheaper data than Jio

More telecos are likely to follow suit and may announce attractive offers (voice and data) in the time to come to retain customers.

A week after Jio announced to offer data at almost Rs 50 per GB, BSNL is now set to offer data at almost 1/50th cost. Actually, the state run teleco has announced wireline plan as low as Rs 249.

Named as UNLIMITED BB 249, it will offer 2 speed with FUP of 300 GB (after which the speed will be throlled but users would continue to have internet connectivity) which translates to about Rs 1 per GB. The wireline broadband plan will be available from September 9.

“The plan will enhance the customer experience towards wireline broadband services and attract new users to experience BSNL broadband services,” Anupam Shrivastava, chairman of BSNL, was quoted as saying in a statement.

He further added, “Under this plan, customers can download unlimited Broadband data without bothering about any data limit. BSNL shall offer 2 Mbps speed under this plan.”

However, it is a promotional offer and customers will get 300 GB FUP for only six months. Also note that this is wireline plan while with Jio you can get data on the go and Jio is likely to offer higher speed while in this BSNL plan you will get maximum of 2 Mbps speed.

But the silver lining here is that more telecos are likely to follow suit and may announce attractive offers (voice and data) in the time to come to retain customers.
