BSNL slashes tariff by 50%, introduces unlimited 3G plan for Rs 1099

Previously we saw operators like Airtel and Vodafone cutting of their data plan tariffs resulting the increasing threat from Reliance Jio.

With Reliance Jio catching up all the customers, many of the other telecom operators have come up with cheap internet data plans. After Airtel who offered 10GB data at the rate of 1GB for purchase of Galaxy J Series smartphone, BSNL has now introduced unlimited plans without any reduction in speed. Not only this, the state owned company has also doubles the data usage in some of the plans. In other words, the state run teleco has slashed by 50 per cent.

Talking about the Plans, the unlimited plan comes in at Rs 1,099. BSNL doubles the data from 5GB to 10GB in the Rs 549 plan and also increased the data from 1GB to 2GB in Rs 156 plan. The Rs 549 plan has validity of 30 days, whereas the Rs 156 plan has validity of 10 days only.

“Due to improvement in network, BSNL has been gaining customers. We are now first in the industry to offer unlimited 3G plan for Rs 1,099 without reduction in speed. This will rejoice [sic] our customers and help them experience improved BSNL networks,” BSNL chairman and managing director Anupam Shrivastava commented while revealing these new tariffs.

BSNL Board Director (CM) RK Mittal said: “Last year, BSNL had also facilitated the customer by offering 80 percent cheaper voice tariff. By massive reduction in data tariff and introduction of unlimited data STVs (Special Tariff Vouchers), BSNL hopes to serve data customers, mainly the youth segment in a much better way,”

While growth in mobile connection subscription was by Airtel in the month of July, it was BSNL back in April with net additions of about 11.4 lakh users followed by Bharti Airtel with 9.78 lakh users and Aircel with 5.72 lakh users.

Previously we saw operators like Airtel and Vodafone cutting of their data plan tariffs resulting the increasing threat from Reliance Jio who is offering free unlimited data and Calls for 90 days. Today, the preview offer was further extended to smartphones from ASUS, Alcatel and TCL.
