State-owned telecom operator BSNL has announced a new landline broadband plan for a monthly charge of Rs 491 which it calls the “most economical broadband plan”. The new plan offers users 20GB of data per day at 20Mbps speed with the addition of unlimited voice calling to any network, all of which can be availed for as low as Rs 491 per month.
Announced as a tweet by BSNL’s board member N. K. Mehta, the Rs 491 plan is currently available through retailers, franchises and customer service centres and will benefit individuals as well as small/ medium-level entrepreneurs.
BSNL has been revising its mobile and broadband plans lately in the aftermath of Reliance Jio announcing their JioFiber network. The latest plan reflects that the state-owned operator wants to retain as many users as possible from switching to other internet service providers when Jio initialises the commercial availability of its broadband service.
BSNL currently leads in the Indian broadband business followed closely by Airtel but with Jio’s power to disrupt the market is anything to be believed, the two leading operators will be facing a massive pressure against competitive prices and tariff when JioFiber goes official.
However, this isn’t the first time BSNL has provided its customers with daily data benefits with the introduction of Rs 99, Rs 199, Rs 299 and Rs 399 BBG ULD Combo broadband plans which offered offer 20 Mbps of data speed and unlimited voice calling.
