BlackBerry has showcased two new smartphones, named as BlackBerry Passport and BlackBerry Classic. The upcoming Blackberry Passpost has a rectangular design just like the BlackBerry Z3 while the Blackberry Classic bears more of a previous generation BlackBerry device look. John Shen, chief executive officer of BlackBerry, briefly showed off the two smartphones on the sidelines of the company’s Earnings Call.
BlackBerry Passport indirectly imitates the Passport in terms of size and offers best of both words – large touchscreen and keyboard. Unlike previous generations, the BlackBerry Passport has 4-inch display with 1440×1440 pixel Resolution and a three row straight QWERTY keypad with metal frets between the rows. This smartphone will be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 mobile Chipset paired with massive 3 GB RAM inside.
At the rear, BlackBerry has placed a 13 megapixel camera with LED flash and a huge 3450 mAh battery to make it last for long hours once charged. The most distinct feature of the Passport would be the lack of Symbol keys and only three row QWERTY keyboard. In a way, it reminds us of a stretched out Nokia E61 smartphone.
BlackBerry Classic is the amazing marriage of the Bold 9900 design with that of the Q10/Q5 design. The Classic carries Bold 9900’s four row QWERTY keyboard with metal frets between. Meanwhile the side and rear profile of the phone with well rounded corners will remind you of the Q5 and Q10. The BlackBerry Classic has a 3.5-inch screen.
Both devices are expected to arrive with the BlackBerry 10.3 OS update scheduled for fall.
