BlackBerry had sometime back, while announcing their partnership with Nokia, promised to bring the BlackBerry Messenger for the Windows Phone platform as well as the Nokia X platform. On Thursday, John Chen, chief executive officer of BlackBerry, stated at the Quarterly Earnings Call that the BlackBerry Messenger can be expected for the Windows Phone platform in the month of July.
BlackBerry Messenger has been successfully made available on the two popular platforms – Android and iOS, apart from the home platform, BlackBerry OS. Back in February, BlackBerry promised to work with Nokia and Microsoft to successfully bring the BlackBerry Messenger for the respective platforms.
BlackBerry Messenger for the Windows Phone platform is expected in July and in the same month, Microsoft has plans to start rolling out the Windows Phone 8.1 update for the premium Lumia devices.
It would be interesting to see the implementation of the BlackBerry Messenger on the Windows Phone platform since it is quite different from Android and iOS. We estimate that the users will be able to make the of the new Action Bar and Notification tray in the Windows Phone 8.1 update.
However, just like many other popular apps, we believe that the initial release of the BlackBerry Messenger for Windows Phone might be a beta or bare-bones version. The BBM Voice and Video features may not be included from the first version itself. At least, that was BlackBerry’s strategy with BBM for iOS and Android.
