BlackBerry KEYone unveiled, availability for April 2017

This is going to be the last smartphone designed by BlackBerry, as in September the company had announced its decision to end smartphone design and production, and instead license the brand to its partner TCL.

At a pre-event ahead of the official commencement of Mobile World Congress(MWC) 2017, the BlackBerry KEYone was launched by the Canadian company. It comes with an iconic physical keyboard and will be available beginning April 2017 in select markets. It will be priced at $549 (approx Rs 38,600) in the US, GBP 499 (roughly Rs 41,400) in the UK, and EUR 599 (roughly Rs 42,100) in Europe.

If we talk about, BlackBerry KEYone’s Smart Keyboard, it has a fingerprint sensor on the spacebar and a capacitive touch on the entire keyboard for scrolling. One can ‘Flick’ predictions using the BlackBerry KEYone keyboard, and also assign shortcuts to keys for actions such as browsing, triggering the camera or app.

The smartphone sports an aluminium frame and a 4.5-inch full-HD (1620×1080 pixels) IPS display with a density of 433ppi. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC clocked at 2GHz, coupled with 3GB of RAM and an Adreno 506 GPU. It has a 32GB of inbuilt storage that is expandable via card (up to 2TB).

The BlackBerry KEYone runs on 7.1 Nougat software with the company’s productivity and security optimisations such as the BlackBerry Hub and DETK security monitoring app.

In the camera department, BlackBerry KEYone has a 12-megapixel rear camera with a Sony IMX378 sensor and an 8-megapixel front facing the camera with a lens and a flash module.

The new KEYone comes with standard set of connectivity options, including LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a USB port. It runs on a 3505mAh battery and supports QuickCharge 3.0 with a ‘Boost’ charging feature that gives 50 percent charge in “roughly 36 minutes.”
