BlackBerry Athena now spotted on TENAA

The TENAA listing shows the phone with a Qwerty keypad - indicating that this could be the successor of BlackBerry KeyOne.

The rumoured BlackBerry Athena has been spotted several times in the past. Now it has been found listed on the TENAA mobile phone website.

The TENAA listing shows the phone with a keypad – indicating that this could be the successor of BlackBerry KeyOne – it may just be called as KeyOne 2. Curiously, the listing shows its model no. as BBF100-4 while the current KEYone has model number BBB100-1.

It also clearly shows a dual rear camera set up that comes in a horizontal pattern. The back panel seems to be of plastic material but with a rubberised pattern. The power button lies in the right hand side along with the volume rocker and another key, which might be for quick access for camera or other functionalities.

The SIM tray is in the left hand side while the speaker grill lies in the bottom alongside a type C port. A 3.5 mm jack is there in the top.

As per earlier leaks the phone would have a USB-C port for charging and a headphone jack on the top. Rumours also suggest that the phone will be powered by Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 660 with 8GB RAM and 64GB of onboard storage.

Apart from this nothing much is known about the phone as of now.

The original Keyone was launched in India in August 2017 and is still selling for around Rs 36,000. The smartphone sports an aluminium frame and a 4.5-inch full-HD (1620×1080 pixels) IPS display with a of 433ppi and has protection. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC clocked at 2GHz, coupled with 4GB of RAM and an Adreno 506 GPU. It has a 64GB of inbuilt storage that is expandable via card (up to 2TB).

It is backed up by a 3505 battery and has QuickCharge 3.0 with a ‘Boost’ charging feature that gives 50 percent charge in “roughly 36 minutes.” On the camera front, the smartphone offers a 12-megapixel rear camera with a Sony IMX378 sensor and an 8-megapixel front facing the camera with a wide-angle lens and a flash module. Besides, the smartphone offers hybrid dual sim, LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a USB port. The smartphone measures 149.3 x 72.5 x 9.4 mm and weighs 180 grams.
