BlackBerry 9720 with dedicated BBM key

BlackBerry 9720 sporting a Qwerty keyboard and BlackBerry 7.1 OS was introduced quietly and will be made available in the coming weeks.

BlackBerry has quietly announced a new BlackBerry 7.1 OS smartphone – BlackBerry 9720. Surprisingly, the device is not tagged with the Bold or Touch brand names. The new BlackBerry 9720 features a BlackBerry Keyboard and has a dedicated key to quickly launch the BlackBerry Messenger. The smartphone is expected to be available in Asia, EMEA and Latin America in the coming weeks.

The Mobile Indian had reported about the BlackBerry 9720 images that were leaked last month. Now, since the phone has been formally announced, BlackBerry has not slotted the phone under its Bold or Curve line-up of BlackBerry 7.x OS devices.

The new BlackBerry 9720 features a 2.8 inch display with 480 x 360 pixel resolution and pixel density of 214 pixels per inch. BlackBerry has packed an 806 MHz Tavor MG1 mobile processor, which might vary for different regions. By default, the smartphone packs 512 MB RAM and 512 MB on-board storage. Of course, there is a memory card slot to load all your music, and there is built-in FM radio.

At the rear, BlackBerry 9720 has a 5 megapixel EDOF camera with LED flash and 4X digital zoom. This smartphone features a Qwerty BlackBerry Keyboard for ease of quick typing. It will feature Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR, WiFi and GPS along with support.

This smartphone will run BlackBerry 7.1 OS out of the box and will have a 1450 battery to provide enough run time. BlackBerry plans to offer this handset in black, blue, pink, purple and white colour options.
