Black Shark 2 update brings Digital Wellbeing, GameDock 4.0, new security and more

Among the new features to come to the Black Shark 2 is Google’s Digital Wellbeing which lets you track the amount of time you spend on each app.

Black Shark announced the Black Shark 2 gaming smartphone in India starting for Rs 39,999 in May. The company has now started rolling out an update to the Black Shark 2 bringing new features and some optimisations to the gaming device.

The update to the Black Shark 2 shifts the build number to version SKYW1909192OS00MP4 or SKYW1909192OS01MP4. The update weighs in at 646MB and upgrades the security levels of the phone to August 2019 security.

Among the new features to come to the Black Shark 2 is Google’s Digital Wellbeing which lets you track the amount of time you spend on each app. With it, users can set a time-limit on usages, see how many times you open up any app, and know which app notification gets most of your attention through the day.

Other new features include an updated Game Dock 4.0 with Shark Time and a lockscreen swipe off for notifications, drop-down gesture for notifications on home screen and support for Arabic and Lithuanian languages. The new firmware has fixes sudden light up after fingerprint unlocking, default time zone, Debugging and invalid device theme.

The update has optimised Camera Anti-Banding, standby power consumption, NoInCall in GameDock, Memory management strategy, Fingerprint unlocks speed, the power consumption of FaceUnlock, GamePad stability, translation, system stability and performance.

In order to update to the latest firmware, head over to Settings > System > System updates and tap on “Download and install”.

To recall, Black Shark 2 features a 6.39-inch Full display with a screen resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels along with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 403ppi of pixel density. It’s powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor along with Adreno 640 which is backed by up to 12GB of and up to 256GB of internal storage.

The phone has a 4000mAh battery with 27W support that offers 30 minutes of gaming with just 5 minutes of charging and it runs on Android 9.0 Pie. It’s equipped with a dual-camera setup, which comes with a combination of 48MP primary lens with f/1.75 and a 12MP telephoto lens with f/2.2 aperture. There’s a 20MP selfie camera on the Black Shark 2 with f/2.0 aperture.

Black Shark 2 features Liquid Cooling 3.0, which includes a liquid-cooled plate along with liquid-cooled tube that covers all the heat-generating components of the CPU. Liquid Cooling 3.0 is claimed to be 20 times more efficient in heat dissipation. This brings down the core temperature by up to 14-degree C. There is an X-style that provides better reception along with hidden press sensitive buttons for the display. The smartphone also comes with a Magic Press pressure-sensing technology to enable customisation of pressure sensitivity on the display.
