Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) App has been finally launched on the iOS platform. The app can be downloaded from the Apple App store. To recall, the app was launched for Android back in December last year.
The app currently supports over 30 banks including State Bank of India, IDBI Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra, Axis Bank and so on. It is currently available in English and Hindi language as opposed to the Android version which supports different regional languages like Odia, Telugu, Bengali, Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada and Gujarati.
“The BHIM App will now cater to almost 100 per cent smartphone users in the country with the launch on iOS platform. This will ensure wider acceptance for digital transactions among consumers across all sections. Though market share of iPhones is not very large in India, users of iPhone are high transacting customers. Therefore, it is a development of special significance as it will help to boost transaction volumes,” said A. P. Hota, MD & CEO, National Payments Corp of India (NCPI).
In a related news, the application has been adopted by over 140 lakh people in India, said, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister for Communications & Information Technology, Government of India. He further added that the government will launch two new schemes to promote the usage of BHIM by introducing Referral Bonus Scheme for individuals and a Cashback Scheme for merchants.
For the uninitiated, BHIM is a simplified payment platform to facilitate UPI (Unified Payment Interface) and USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) payment methods. The application recently added Aadhaar-based payments option to its ecosystem. To do so, open up the app > navigate to ‘Send’ option > tap the three dot menu > choose AADHAAR PAY as a payment option. After this, enter the 12-digit Aadhaar number, fill in the amount you want to send and hit Send.
