Where Asus launched its Zenfone 3 Max yesterday in India, there was another smartphone from a company named Hyve which was launched at the same price point. Hyve Pryme and ASUS Zenfone 3 Max both are priced at Rs 17,999 which is when we thought why not compare the two? Note, Hyve Pryme will be available starting November 20 on pre-booking basis.
Design and Display
As always, starting with the design, both the phones come with unibody metallic design like every other smartphone these days. Fingerprint scanner on both the phones lie at the back. Button placements is also similar on both the devices with both power and volume rocker on the right side. The bottom chin on Hyve’s Pryme looks ugly in our opinion.
Coming to the display, ASUS Zenfone 3 Max comes with a 5.5 inch IPS LCD Full HD 1080p display. On the other hand, the Pryme features a 5.7 inch Full HD 2.5D curved glass display with Resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
Display quality on both the phones will be the same and you should not have a cause for complaint in either case.
Processor and Memory
Jumping inside, things start changing. In terms of Chipset manufacturers. ASUS Zenfone 3 Max is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core 64-bit processor clocked at 1.4GHz and is backed by 3GB RAM. It comes with 32GB internal storage with 3GB RAM for multi-tasking. The given internal storage is further expandable up to 128 GB via microSD card.
On the other hand, Hyve Pryme is powered by a 2.3GHz Deca-Core MediaTek Helio X20 processor, along with Mali-T880MP4 GPU. The Pryme comes with 4GB RAM, and 32GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 200GB via microSD card.
Pryme takes the lead here with 4GB RAM and higher clocked Deca-Core processor.
Camera
The Zenfone 3 Max has a 16-megapixel rear camera with 0.03 seconds Tri-tech Auto-focus technology (2nd Generation Laser AF, Phase detection AF, and Continous AF). The device supports full-HD recording along with Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) for stable videos. At the front, the device sports an 8-megapixel camera that supports modes like the beautification modes and can shoot videos in Full ,HD resolution.
Whereas, the Hyve Pryme flaunts a 13-megapixel primary shooter with dual LED flash and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with single LED flash.
We haven’t tested out Pryme’s camera so we cannot comment on the actual performance just yet. However, we recently reviewed the Zenfone 3 Max and the camera looked promising.
Battery and Connectivity
In the battery department as well, both the devices stand strong with a 3500 mAh cell on the Hyve Pryme and an even bigger 4100 mAh battery on the Zenfone 3 Max. In our testing, the Zenfone 3 Max easily lasted for about one and a half day. Also, Hyve Pryme sports a larger display with higher resolution which should eat up battery time faster.
For connectivity, both the devices come with Wi-Fi (802.11 ac), Bluetooth 4.1 (v4.0 in ASUS Zenfone 3 Max), GPS/A-GPS. There is no mention of NFC on both the devices. Further both the devices have Dual SIM capabilities with a hybrid SIM slot. We get a USB Type-C port on the Pryme and Micro USB 2.0 in ASUS Zenfone 3 Max.
Wrapping Up
Now for the verdict, while Hyve is a new entrant in smartphone industry, ASUS has been there for quite a while now with its Zenfone series leading the way. ASUS Zenfone 3 Max comfortably takes this onethanks to its battery and in all probability in camera performance as well. On the other hand, Hyve’s Pryme does come with higher speed processor coupled with 4GB RAM. The verdict in our opinion lies entirely on personal preference. We would recommend ASUS Zenfone 3 Max as it is a better all round device.
