The total number of iOS devices outnumbers Android devices by about 59 per cent in the United States, according to a comScore report. This is despite the fact that Android sees around 350,000 activations each day.
According to the survey, if all the users of iPods, iPads and iPhones are taken into account, then there are 37.9 million iOS users; whereas Android has a user base of 23.8 million.
According to the survey, of all iPad owners, 27.3 per cent also own iPhones; whereas 17.5 per cent have BlackBerry phones. Android phones are used by 14.2 per cent users; whereas others use feature phones or phones with different operating systems. iPads tend to be used by younger users.
The iOS ecosystem exists beyond the usual iPhone, it added.
“Though it’s frequently assumed that the Apple’s user base is composed of dedicated Apple ‘fanboys’, there’s not a tremendous amount of overlapping mobile device access among these users. This of course has significant implications for the developer community as they consider the market potential in developing applications for different mobile platforms,” a press release of comScore said.
