Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular support coming to India via Airtel and Reliance Jio

With the Apple Watch Series 3 LTE, users would be able to use their wearable as a standalone device for all their calls and data uses.

The Apple Watch Series 3 with support is finally making its way to India through India’s two leading telecom operators Airtel and Reliance Jio. With cellular connectivity, the wearable would be able to work on its own for calls and data though it requires an additional e-SIM for the same, which can be availed at Airtel and Reliance Jio stores across the country. With shipping to start on May 11, both telecom operators will start pushing the Watch Series 3 LTE for pre-registration from May 4.

Customers opting for Airtel can pre-register on its official website starting May 4 and will be able to avail an introductory cellular trial scheme. There aren’t any additional details provided by the company. In order to activate cellular service in the Apple Watch Series 3 LTE, users will have to get their iPhone updated to at least 11.3 and their Apple Watch to 4. Upon getting done with that, users can head on to the ‘About’ section inside Settings > iPhone > General and update their carrier settings when prompted to. The Apple Watch Series 3 LTE is compatible with any iPhone 6s or higher.

Reliance Jio has introduced its JioEverywhereConnect service that lets users use the same mobile number on their iPhone as well as their Apple Watch 3 LTE. Customers will be able to make use of the same number features on Jio’s prepaid or postpaid connections. With Apple’s latest wearable, one wouldn’t need to take their iPhone with their Apple Watch in order to make calls or receive notifications, all because of the Watch Series 3 LTE’s seamless cellular connectivity.

Interested users will be able to book their Apple Watch Series 3 LTE though Jio.com, Reliance Digital and Jio Stores across the country starting May 4. Reliance Jio is promising a one-day delivery for users who pre-order and is making its JioEverywhereConnect service available at no additional cost for its iPhone users.

The Apple Watch Series 3 was introduced in September last year but India was only greeted with the WiFi version of the wearable. The entry variant of the device is available for an asking price of Rs 29,900 in the country and features a dual-core with a new chip for better connectivity. The cellular version of the Watch Series 3 comes not only with LTE support but also a barometer and a waterproof design.
