After Apple Watch 3, Apple has today also launched a 4K-capable version of its Apple TV set-top box at its keynote event. The new Apple TV 4K comes with the HDR or High Dynamic Range support and Dolby Vision. The Apple TV 4K comes in two variants – 32GB and 64GB storage priced at $179 and $199 respectively. It will be available from September 22 and the pre-orders start from September 15. India availability has not been shared.
There is support for 4K video, a standard with much higher resolution. Of course, this will require a new 4K TV. With 4K, Apple supports HDR video playback as well offering highest picture quality. This standard shows video with much more vivid colours.
The Apple TV 4K features a faster Processor to handle the higher-resolution video. The new TV is powered by the new A10X processor, the same chip that powers iPad Pro for a clear 4K HDR experience with 3GB RAM. The current Apple TV box, introduced in 2015, features the A8 processor from the iPhone 6, which launched in 2014. For comparison, the iPhone 7 includes the A10 chip.
Apple has announced that it has partnered with various Hollywood studios like Sony Pictures, Universal, and 20th Century Fox to bring amazing 4K content to iTunes. Apple will be offering all 4K movies at the same price as HD movies on Apple TV 4K. If you have any previous purchases, they will be upgraded to 4K quality automatically without any extra charges, which is an excellent move by Apple. Apple has also announced that it will partner with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video for 4K HDR original content on iTunes.
The Apple TV 4K also allows you to consume more live sports and news content along with availability in more countries.
As far as pricing for Apple TV 4K in India is concerned, it will be Rs 15,900 for 32GB and Rs 17,900 for 64GB variant. The Apple TV (4th Generation) 32GB will be priced at Rs 12,900 availablethrough select Apple Authorised Resellers.
