Apple is likely to release its latest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in India on October 7, almost a month after their international release. The launch date was not announced by Apple but on Apple India’s website the launch date was mentioned in the spec pages of iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
In the US market, the Apple iPhone 7 will cost $649 (Rs 43,123) while iPhone 7 Plus will cost $769 (Rs 51,096). As of now their Indian prices are not known but expect it to be much higher, and probably will start from Rs 60,000. The phones come in black, gold, rose gold and silver colours.
Apple revealed the new iPhones in an event yesterday (10.30 PM IST) in San Francisco, USA. The new iPhones not only are the first water and dust resistant phones of Apple but they are also the first to come without a 3.5 mm jack. Instead, the new iPhones allow users to use the Lightening Connector to listen to music. This is the same like the CDLA headset of LeEco phones. However, you can still use your favourite headset with the new iPhones with the help of a Lightening to 3.5 mm Headphone jack adapter that will be available for $9. Else you can buy the new Apple EarPods with lightening connector for $29. Apple also announced a wireless Bluetooth earbuds called AirPods, which will be sold separately in October for $159.
Also this time, Apple has ditched 16 GB model and instead launched the new phones in 32 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB storage models. The iPhone 7 has a 4.7 inch touchscreen while the iPhone 7 Plus comes with a 5.5 inch display with 1334×750 pixels and 1920×1080 pixel resolution. Both are LED backlit IPS screens and have 625 cd/M2 max brightness.
Apple has introduced new CPU – A10Fusion, which it said is the best ever CPU to feature in a smartphone. Built on the 64 bit architecture, the CPU comes with four cores – two for conserving battery power and two for high performance. They have a separate motion coprocessor while Apple says that their graphics Processor is 50 per cent faster than that of previous A9 SoC.
But the biggest inclusion is the dual camera set up in the iPhone 7 Plus. The iPhone 7 Plus has a primary 12 Megapixel camera as the iPhone 7. But the bigger iPhone has a secondary camera, which is dubbed as ‘telephoto’ camera. The secondary camera in the iPhone 7 Plus is meant to create depth effect in images and helps users to get 2x zoom without any assistance from software. Post 2x, the camera takes help of software as is usually happens in smartphones.
The primary 12 megapixel camera of both iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have f/1.8 aperture, Optical Image Stabilisation, six element lens, Live Photo feature with stabilization, Sapphire crystal lens cover, Backside illumination sensor, Hybrid IR filter, Auto HDR, Burst mode, timer mode, panorama and geo tagging features. There is Quad LED True tone flash light in the back panel of both the phones. The 12 megapixel cameras can record 4K videos, slow motion full HD videos at 120 FPS and HD videos at 240 fps.
Both iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have 7 megapixel front camera with f/2.2 aperture. Called as FaceTime HD camera, these can record full HD videos, and have BSI sensor, Auto HDR, Auto Image Stabilisation, Burst mode and Timer mode.
The LTE enabled iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have WiFi (ac), WiFi with MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS with GLONASS and NFC. They have fingerprint sensor that is integrated into the home button.
Ofcourse, the new iPhones have revamped Siri that allows users sending messages, set reminders and do more through voice. Siri, Apple says, now offers proactive suggestions and identify songs as well.
Apple did not reveal their battery size but claimed that they are the best iPhone yet in terms of battery life. The built in Li-Ion battery claims to offer talktime of upto 21 hours on 3G network. Besides, they come with nano SIM slot, Three-axis gyro, Accelerometer, Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor and Barometer sensors.
The Cupertino based company also launched the latest iOS 10 which the company termed as its biggest release ever. The new platform has several new features including home automation solutions, new maps App that allows booking cab and reserving a seat in the restaurant and a new message app with new stickers and screens.The iOS 10 will be available from September 13.
Apple also announced a new watch called Apple Watch Series 2. Apple also revealed that it has become the No 2 watch maker in the world in terms of revenue.
