Apple has unveiled its refreshed MacBook Pro laptops and Mac Mini desktop computer which now come with M2, M2 Pro and the M2 Max CPUs. While the M2 chip debuted last year with MacBook Air, the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips have been launched alongside the new MacBook Pro and Mac Mini. Read on to know more about the new machines from Apple.
Apple MacBook Pro with M2 Pro, M2 Max
The new Apple MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2023) has a starting price of Rs 1,99,900 in India while the MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2023) will be priced starting at Rs 2,49,900. The price keeps bumping up as you spec the laptops higher. The price of the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Max chip could go up to Rs 6,29,900 while for the 16-inch model, it could go up to Rs 6,49,900.
MacBook Pro with M2 Pro features a 10- or 12-core CPU with up to eight high-performance and four high-efficiency cores for up to 20 percent greater performance over M1 Pro. Next, the MacBook Pro gets 200GB/s of unified memory Bandwidth — double the amount in M2 — and up to 32GB of unified memory.
The GPU comes with up to 19 cores which deliver up to 30 percent more graphics performance, and the Neural Engine is 40 percent faster, speeding up machine learning tasks like video analysis and image processing.
With M2 Max, things get even more serious. It has an even larger GPU featuring up to 38 cores and delivering up to 30 percent greater graphics performance over M1 Max, and also includes 400GB/s of unified memory bandwidth which is twice that of M2 Pro. With up to 96GB of unified memory, MacBook Pro enables intensive graphics workloads, such as creating scenes with extreme 3D geometry and textures, or merging massive photographic panoramas.

M2 Max has a next-gen 12-core CPU with up to eight high-performance and four high-efficiency cores that delivers up to 20 percent greater performance over M1 Max, and a more powerful media engine than M2 Pro, with twice the ProRes acceleration to speed up media playback and transcoding. Apart from these, you can configure the new laptops with up to 96GB of RAM, and 8TB of storage.
MacBook Pro now features Wi-Fi 6E for faster wireless connectivity, as well as more advanced HDMI, to support 8K displays up to 60Hz and 4K displays up to 240Hz. Other connectivity options include three Thunderbolt 4 ports for high-speed connection to peripherals, an SDXC card slot, and MagSafe 3 charging. The new MacBook Pros run on MacOS Ventura out of the box.
Apart from the new higher price, what has changed in the new MacBook Pros is the amount of power, which is higher than 2021 models thanks to the new chips. There’s also better connectivity options and that’s it. It gets the same design, same display, identical 1080p webcam housed in a notch, and the same six-speaker system as the models launched in October of 2021.
Apple Mac Mini with M2, M2 Pro
The Apple Mac Mini with M2 and M2 Pro chips replace the M1 and Intel CPU powered models. The new Mac mini with M2 starts at Rs 59,900 while the Mac mini with M2 Pro starts at Rs 1,29,900.
The base model features an M2 CPU with four performance cores and four efficiency cores, plus a 10-core GPU and 16-core neural engine. Memory bandwidth on the machine is 100GBps and 8GB of RAM is standard. It can be upgraded till 24GB. The 256GB SSD can also be swapped for 512GB, 1TB or 2TB.
The M2 Pro configuration, gets users a 10-core CPU with six performance cores and four efficiency cores, plus a 16-core GPU. While 16GB of RAM is standard, one can upgrade it till 32GB. Memory bandwidth is 200GBps and you get a 512GB SSD. One can upgrade the storage till up to 8TB.
All Mac mini variants have a built-in speaker and integrated power supply, two or four Thunderbolt 4 ports depending on the M2 or M2 Pro model, HDMI video output, a Gigabit Ethernet port, 2 x USB Type-A (5Gbps) ports, and a 3.5mm audio jack. There’s Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 for wireless connectivity.
