As reported earlier, Google is destined to release the much-awaited Android Wear 2.0 update in ‘early February’. But if the latest rounds of rumours are anything to go by, Google might release the update during a special event on February 9. The search-engine giant is also reported to launch two new smartwatches from LG during the event.
As per a report by VentureBeat, Google has partnered with LG to launch the first devices running on Android Wear 2.0, known as LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style. The report further highlights that the two smartwatches will go on sale in the US on February 10, while it will be launched in other countries in the coming weeks. However, there is no information about India availability, but LG will showcase the smartwatches at Mobile World Congress 2017, which will be held in Barcelona.
Talking about the specs, multiple reports suggest that the LG Watch Sport will sport a 1.38-inch OLED display with 480 x 480 Pixel resolution. The device will be backed by 768MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, and will come equipped with a 430mAh battery. The smartwatch will sport a heart-rate sensor.
The LG Watch Style is rumoured to come sport a 1.2-inch OLED display with a screen Resolution of 360 x 360 pixels. The smartwatch will be backed by a 512MB of RAM, 4GB internal memory, and a 240mAh battery.
The LG Watch Sport is said to be the flagship device, while the LG Watch Style will be more of a budget-centric smartwatch. Both the smartwatches will come with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options, while the Sport model will come equipped with cellular connectivity (3G and LTE) as well, along with GPS and NFC (Near Field Communication). The smartwatches are said to be Android and iOS compatible.
Other than this, it is reported that both the smartwatches will come with the deep integration of Google Assistant. LG Watch Sport and Watch Style will be water and dust resistant, with the former sporting an IP68 certification, while the latter will ship with IP67 certification.
Talking about the Android Wear 2.0, the new smartwatch OS will bring in a bunch of new features including on-device Play Store that will allow users to download watch-specific apps, support for Android Pay, support for Google’s AI Voice Assistant, revamped notification centre and more. Moreover, not all current Android Wear smartwatches will be updated but most of the recent ones like Moto 360 Gen 2, LG Watch Urbane and 2nd Edition LTE, ASUS ZenWatch 2, ASUS ZenWatch 3, Huawei Watch, Fossil Q Wander etc. will be updated to Android Wear 2.0 platform.
