Android Marshmallow rolled out for Asus ZenFone Zoom, ZenFone Selfie

Recently, Asus rolled out the Marshmallow update for the ZenFone 2 Laser and ZenFone Max smartphones.

Asus has rolled out 6.0 Marshmallow update for ZenFone Zoom and ZenFone Selfie smartphones. The software update brings firmware version 4.21.40.74 for Zenfone Zoom while ZenFone Selfie’s firmware gets promoted to 21.40.0.1692.

Since the update is being rolled out over-the-air, it may take some time before it reaches out to all users of the devices. One can also manually check for the update by going to Settings ->About Phone -> Software Update. If you can’t wait, you can also download the full update from here and here.

The update brings various Marshmallow features and also removes a number of pre-loaded apps from the devices. Now you won’t see apps like Asus Backup, Google Play Books, Google Play Games, Google Play Newsstand, and much more. The update will bring many new apps such as Google Calendar, Google Messenger, Facebook, Instagram, and much more.

It brings new Doze battery saving feature that hibernates background apps when the smartphone is in standby mode and ‘Now on Tap’ for Google Now showing contextual information by long pressing on the home button and permissions to control the information you share with apps.

Asus Zenfone Selfie was launched last year in India in two versions – 2GB RAM and 3GB RAM. The 2GB RAM is now available from Flipkart for Rs 10,999 and the 3GB RAM is now available from Flipkart for Rs 16,999.

Both the versions of Zenfone Selfie have full HD based 5.5 inch IPS touchscreen with 4 coating, anti fingerprint technology and 10 finger touch support. They come with Android Lollipop operating system with Zen UI on top, 1.7 GHz Snapdragon 615 octa core processor, dual SIM, 4G, 4.0, GPS with and GLONASS, WiFi (a/b/g/n/ac), and a 3000 battery. Both the models of Zenfone Selfie have identical measurements as well – they measure 77.2×156.5×10.8 mm and weigh 170 grams. They have 13 camera unit in both rear and front panels.

Asus had launched Zenfone Zoom in India at whopping Rs 37,999 earlier this year. The Zenfone Zoom comes with a 13 megapixel rear camera that is armed with 10-element Hoya lens, Laser auto focus, optical image stabilization (OIS), 12X magnification, Professional Panasonic SmartSFI sensor for optimized image, 3x optical zoom, PixelMaster technology and a super resolution mode in which you can capture 52x resolution photos. The ZenFone Zoom is also equipped with a 5 megapixel front camera for selfie lovers.

Besides this, Asus ZenFone Zoom features a 5.5-inch display (1920 x 1080 pixels) along with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and has anti-fingerprint coating too. It is powered by a 2.5 GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3590 processor and 4GB RAM. The Zenfone Zoom comes in two variants – 64GB and 128GB of internal storage, which the user can further expand via a micro card by another up to 64 GB. The handset runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system with ASUS ZenUI on top, and is packed with 3000 mAh non-removable lithium-polymer battery along with ASUS BoostMaster technology that charges the battery from zero to 60% in just 39 minutes.

Connectivity options include 4G, WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, WiFi Direct, GPS with A-GPS/GLONASS, Bluetooth 4.0, and 2.0 port. The handset measures 158.9 x 78.84 x 11.95~5 mm and weighs 185 grams and in the department it has Accelerometer, proximity, ambient light, gyroscope, digital compass and Hall-effect sensors.
