Android Marshmallow is now running on 18.7 percent of all Android devices, according to a latest report of Google. Last month Android 6.0 Marshmallow had 15.2 percent share. Android Lollipop saw a reduction of 0.5 percent and is now running on about 35% of Android devices with 13.1 percent being Android 5.0 and 21.9 percent being Android 5.1.
Android Kitkat has also seen a loss of market share which now stands at 27.7 percent compared to last month’s 29.2 percent. Other older Android versions such as Jelly Bean, Ice Cream Sandwich and Gingerbread takes up 15.6 percent, 1.4 percent and 1.5 percent respectively.
Though there has been almost 25 % growth in Marshmallow’s market share which is a good sign, Android 7.0 Nougat is nowhere to be seen. This might be because the above data has been taken for the period 7 days ending 5th September 2016. Given Google released Android 7.0 Nougat on August 22nd, the market share for the same will make way in the next survey round up.
Google, in the report, also conceded that Android updates always takes more time than iOS updates because of vast range of devices and variety of Android skins .
