Rumours for what’s coming at the WWDC 2024 annual conference next week are in full swing and now include a new app called Apple Passwords. The app will potentially be able to serve as a Password manager as well as an Authenticator app, giving competition to the likes of Dashlane, LastPass and more.
The report comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, according to whom the company is planning to launch the new Passwords app as part of its upcoming iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS 15 updates, which will be the next major versions of its iPhone, iPad and Mac operating systems, respectively. The software, which will not only have the capability to store passwords but also generate and keep track of them, will be unveiled June 10 at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference.
The app will have iCloud Keychain at its core, an Apple service that currently handles the sync functionality for passwords and account information between different devices. It turns out that Apple is planning to make this feature more user-facing by introducing a dedicated app.
According to Gurman, the new app will compete with password managers like 1Password and LastPass, and Apple will also allow users to import passwords from these services.

The app will have a list of user logins and will organise other details into different categories, such as accounts, Wi-Fi networks and Passkeys, an Apple-promoted password replacement that will rely on Face ID and Touch ID. Like most password managers, the data can be auto-filled into websites and apps for which the password is stored.
The Apple Passwords app will also work on the Vision Pro headset and Windows computers. And the report adds that it can also support verification codes and serve as an authentication app similar to Google Authenticator.
