Bharti Airtel has once again topped the 4G speed charts with a download speed of 9.15 Mbps, while Reliance Jio’s LTE reach has gotten even better in the last six months. Further, Idea Cellular, Vodafone and Airtel improve in LTE reach but there is a decline in speed.
According to a report by OpenSignal titled “State of Mobile Networks: India (October, 2017)”, Airtel has an average download speed of 9.15Mbps which is higher as compared to Reliance Jio’s 5.81 Mbps. Idea Cellular and Vodafone have an average download speed of 7.4Mbps and 7.45Mbps respectively.
The company has analysed more than 7 billion measurements collected from 708,504 mobile devices from subscribers across India. The brand jas examined the 3G and 4G consumer experience on six operator’s networks. The report further adds that Jio’s 4G speed has seen an increase at a rapid pace after its free data promotions ended on March 31. On the other hand, Airtel, Idea and Vodafone have witnessed a drop in the LTE speed with Airtel measuring the biggest decline from 11.5Mbps to 9.1Mbps. Meanwhile, Idea and Vodafone’s average 4G speed test fell by about a megabit each in our most recent test period.

However, when it comes to 4G availability Reliance Jio tops the charts, while Airtel has been ranked at the bottom. The report says Jio users were able to connect to LTE network 95.6 percent of the time, while Airtel users were only able to find a 4G signal 57.2 percent of the time. “Even though Airtel is improving, its 4G availability results were still relatively poor, which is one of the key reasons it fell behind Jio in our overall speed tests,” the report said.
