Airtel partners with Celkon to offer 4G smartphone at an effective price of Rs 1349

The Celkon Smart 4G Indian sports a 4-inch display, 1.3 GHz processor, 1500mAh battery, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage (expandable up to 32GB via micro SD card slot, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, 3.2-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

Bharti Airtel has partnered with the Celkon, mobile phone manufacturer to offer Celkon Smart smartphone in India at an effective price of Rs 1,349. It is Rs 50 cheaper than the Airtel Karbonn A40 smartphone, announced earlier this month. The partnership between Airtel and Celkon is part of Airtel’s ‘Mera Pehla 4G Smartphone’ initiative to create an ‘open ecosystem’ of affordable 4G smartphones. And will be available at leading mobile stores across the country.

In order to avail the subsidised 4G smartphone, customer needs to make a down payment of Rs 2,849, however for Karbonn A40, one has to pay down payment of Rs 2,899. Further,users will have to make 36 continuous monthly recharges of Rs 169. The customer will get a cash refund of Rs 500 after 18 months and another Rs 1,000 after 36 months, taking the total cash benefit to Rs 1,500.

The Celkon Smart 4G Indian sports a 4-inch display, 1.3 GHz processor, 1500mAh battery, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage (expandable up to 32GB via micro card slot, 6.0 Marshmallow, 3.2-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The smartphone comes equipped 4G/3G/2G with Airtel VoLTE support along with WiFi, Bluetooth, and dual slot. The phone will come bundled with Airtel apps like MyAirtel, Airtel TV, and Wynk Music.

In case the customer does not wish to opt for the Rs 169 bundled plan, one has the flexibility of doing recharges of any denomination and validity as per individual requirements. However, to claim the cash refund benefit, recharges worth Rs 3,000 must be done within the first 18 months (to claim the first refund instalment of Rs 500) and another Rs 3,000 over the next 18 months (to claim the second refund instalment of Rs 1,000).

According to Airtel, the smartphone, which normally costs at Rs 3,500, will be available ar a price of a feature phone. Further, unlike Reliance JioPhone, the ownership of the smartphone is complete with the customer and there is no need to return the device to Airtel/Celkon at any point to claim the cash benefit.
