Airtel customers in and around Mumbai are facing trouble due to fire in one of its data centres located in the city (Malad).
“Services on some of our circuits in the western region are affected due to an unforeseen technical outage. We are working to resolve this at the earliest,†Airtel said in a statement through its official Twitter account.
A spokesperson of the company said “We hope to be able to restore normal services in a couple hours by diverting the traffic through other data centresâ€.
Voice and SMS services will be restored on priority basis, while data services will take longer to be restored. People close to the development told us.
Airtel has more than 3.6 million users in Mumbai, majority of whom will be affected. However it is not the biggest operator in terms of subscribers in Mumbai with Vodafone, RCom and Tata DoCoMo being much bigger.
