Bharti Airtel is in talks with Netflix for providing the free subscription to its users via Airtel TV application.
Sources familiar with the development said to The Mobile Indian, “One can expect a formal announcement related to Airtel and Netflix partnership in May.” This is a good news for Airtel users as they will now have a plethora of content to stream.
Netflix introduced its streaming service in India in 2016. The company has three plans: Rs 500 basic plan, Rs 650 standard plan and Rs 800 premium plan. Under Basic, users will not get HD and Ultra HD content for streaming and they can watch the content on one device at a time. However, with standard plan, users get the access to HD content and can watch up to 2 devices at the same. Lastly, in Premium, users get to watch their favourite content in HD and Ultra HD quality and users can watch up to 4 screens at the same time.
Airtel is extensively working on strengthening its content to be a step ahead from other players in the streaming industry. This will allow users to watch content from different genres and apps, at one place. At a time when most of the Indian spend 90 percent of their time on the smartphone, the move will surely benefit Airtel to attract more users.
Bharti Airtel has already tied up with Amazon India to provide the free subscription to its Prime services in India. The offer is valid for on Airtel Infinity plans, with recharge of Rs 499, Rs 799, and Rs 1,199.
To avail the free subscription, Airtel customers simply need to download and install the Airtel TV App on their smartphones, login via postpaid phone number and enjoy the Prime Membership for one year. Users will see a banner to join Prime Videos. Click on the banner and log in using Amazon login details to avail the free subscription to video service. Airtel TV app is available for iOS and Android platforms.
Airtel also partnered with Hotstar to provide its latter content on TV app. Airtel customers have an access to Hotstar’s 350 plus LIVE TV channels and close to 10,000 popular movies and shows from India and abroad. This will include shows from 22 channels and over 3000 hit movies and shows.
