Leading telecom operator Bharti Airtel has announced the launch of its mobile services in Bangladesh under the Airtel brand. The Indian telco had acquired Warid Telecom of Bangladesh from the Dhabi Group in order to start operations in the country.
Airtel Bangladesh customers will now be able to experience rich multimedia content with the launch of Airtel Live – the WAP portal – offering customers content like games zone, video post, picture post and various other kinds of services such as songs on demand, cricket caller tunes, classified services and App central, which has about 20,000 applications.
Airtel has also unveiled a GPS-based vessel locating service to enable tracking of fishing vessels for the fishermen community, a part of its strategy for addressing rural customers.
In the past 11 months, Airtel Bangladesh had been deploying a mobile network, expanding its coverage in rural Bangladesh.
The company has around four million customers in Bangladesh and covers 64 districts in the country.
Bharti Airtel currently has operations in 19 countries across Asia and Africa. Overall, it has more than 200 million customers as of November end.
