Aircel India has announced international Roaming service for Myanmar in partnership with Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications (MPT), a sole provider of telecommunication services in the country. This roaming facility is available for postpaid subscribers of all Aircel circles.
Aircel will charge Rs 55 per minute for outgoing calls within Myanmar (Myanmar numbers), Rs 80 per minute for outgoing calls (to Indian numbers) and Rs 60 for incoming calls.
With this partnership, Aircel becomes the first Indian telecom operator to offer roaming in this country which is just coming out of its seclusion days and military rule.
The move is likely to affect business community which is exploring new business opportunities in this virgin territory (as far as international business is concerned. Many Indian companies like ONGC and power companies have presence in Myanmar).
Anupam Vasudev, chief marketing officer, Aircel said “Aircel is committed to offer its valuable customers with innovative products and services and ensure they are always well connected. A sizeable number of customers travel to Myanmar for work and leisure and our international roaming services will allow them to be connected 24X7. The customers will now be able to enjoy roaming facilities in all key destinations in Myanmar.”
