Acer unveiled the new Swift laptops back in August at IFA 2016. In the entire series, the company took care to showcase the Swift 7, which was touted to be World’s Thinnest Laptop coming in at just 9.98mm thickness to be exact. Though the laptop was available in various parts of the world starting October, in India, Acer launched the new Swift 7 today and will start selling the ultra-thin laptop from November 18. The Swift 7 will be available exclusively on Flipkart at a price of Rs 99,999.
The base model comes with 7th generation Intel Core i5 processor, fast 256GB SSD, 4GB RAM which can be maxed out up to 8GB and 2×2 802.11ac with MU-MIMO. Coming to the design, it comes with an aluminium body which surrounds a 13.3 inch Full HD display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The laptop weighs just 1.1kg.
Chandrahas Panigrahi, senior director and consumer business head at Acer India said – “We are extremely excited with the India launch of Swift 7. Being the thinnest laptop in the world, it has a premium positioning in the market and with this latest offering we have fulfilled the need for great performance in a beautiful thin package. Over the last few quarters, we were focused on strengthening our product portfolio by leveraging the latest in technology,”
The closest rival to this is HP’s Spectre (10.4mm thin) which was launched in India back in June for a price of Rs 1,19,990. The HP Spectre 13 comes with a two-tone finish along with a copper-coloured hinge, which is made of carbon fibre and aluminium. The Windows 10 laptop comes in Intel Core i5 and i7 versions. The Spectre 13 has 512GB and 256 GB SSD storage versions. There is 8GB of LPDDR3-1866MHz RAM, Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi (ac), three USB Type C port and back lit keyboard.
With this launch, Acer also seems to be directly competing against MacBook Pro which was launched last month with that unique Touch Bar and Apple’s Touch ID.
