American automaker, Jeep has confirmed that it is working on a sub-4 meter SUV for the Indian market. The SUV specialist has also said that it is woking on a three-row mid sized SUV for the Indian market.
Cars below 4 meters are treated on par with small cars and hence get certain tax benefits in India. Also, Jeep must have noticed the new found love of Indians for SUVs. Infact, worldwide SUVs are again gaining tractions after a brief lull following 2007 financial crisis when SUVs were seen oil guzzlers and are shunned as crude oil prices shoot above $100 per barrel.
Coming to Jeep, the smaller SUV is expected to be positioned against Ford Ecosport, Vitara Brezza etc while the three-row mid-size SUV is expected to be positioned above the Compass in the carmaker’s India range.
Note that Jeep Compass currently price starts from Rs 17 lakh onwards in Delhi.
The upcoming small SUVs are expected to have Jeep’s DNA in them which means having a muscular body, high stance, off road driving etc.
But that’s not all Jeep has in store for the Indian customers.
A revamped version of Jeep Renegade is expected to be launched later this year which may come to India next year. The Jeep Compass Trailhawk version is also expected to come this or next month.
