Access the WhatsApp application from within your device’s application menu or from the home screen where the App icon is placed.

Once inside the application access the options menu. It can be accessed by pressing the options key on your smartphone. If you have a tablet then the same is located on the extreme upper right hand side of the device, denoted by three dots. From the popup menu select settings to proceed further.

From the following options select the popup notification tab. Again do not unnecessarily modify other settings.

The device will show a popup with in total of 4 options. The first will give no notification, the second options will offer notifications when the display is on. The third option will give notifications only when the display is off, and the last option will keep giving pop up notifications all the time.
Once you have selected the desired action exit the settings and although it’s not necessary, a quick device reboot will allow the options to take effect more efficiently.
