Samsung finally unveils Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ with Infinity Display, new virtual assistant and more

Both the devices will be available starting April 21 and will be offered in Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, Arctic Silver, Coral Blue and Maple Gold colour variants.

Samsung has finally unveiled this year’s flagship devices, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones. Both the devices will be available starting on April 21 and will be offered in Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, Arctic Silver, Coral Blue and Maple Gold colour variants.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ boasts bezel-less design, which the company calls the Infinity Display coupled with 5 protection. The former sports a 5.8-inch display, while the latter comes with a 6.2-inch screen with both of them donning Quad with 2960 x 1440 pixels.

With the launch of these devices, the company has jumped into the virtual assistant game with the launch of Bixby. With the new Bixby button, you will be able to access the personal assistant and navigate through services and apps with simple voice, touch and text command. Initially, the voice assistant will be integrated with several Samsung native apps and features including Camera, Contacts, Gallery, Messages and Settings, with the plan to expand its capabilities to include more Samsung and third-party apps in the near future.

Moving on, the device comes loaded with biometric technologies including a fingerprint scanner, iris scanner and facial recognition. Both the devices are water and dust resistance and also support fast and wireless charging capabilities.

Not only this, the company has also introduced Samsung DeXthat transforms your smartphone into a desktop by providing a secure desktop-like experience. With Samsung DeX, users can easily display and edit data from their phone, making working from a smartphone faster and smarter.

Talking about specifications, both the devices are powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core clocked at 2.3GHz along with a 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via card. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are equipped with a 12-megapixel rear camera with Dual Pixel technology and f/1.7 and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with smart and aperture f/1.7.MP F1.7 Smart autofocus front camera.

Both of them runs on the latest 7.0 Nougat and the smaller sibling is powered by a 3,500mAh battery, while the Plus model boasts 3,500mAh battery with fast charging on wired and wireless. On the connectivity front, both the devices support Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, USB Type-C, GPS, GLONASS and LTE. The Samsung Galaxy S8 measures 148.9 x 68.1 x 8.0 mm and weighs 155g, while the Galaxy S8+ measures 159.5 x 73.4 x 8.1 mm and 173g.

Other than this, the company has unveiled the new Gear with Controller, powered by Oculus, for convenient one-handed control and navigation, the controller provides better motion interaction when accessing interactive VR content. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ will also connect to the new Gear 360 to create 360-degree videos and 15MP photos.

Also, the company is offering earphone by AKG by Harman as an in-box accessory. These earphones will have a comfortable hybrid canal fit for better noise cancellation and will be made from the anti-tangle metal-fabric material.
