OnePlus 6T confirmed to feature in-display fingerprint scanner

Screen Unlock technology will be powered by a new optical fingerprint module which comprises of a small lens that accurately registers your fingerprint as it presses down on the cover glass. Upon pressing, the screen in and around the area lights up to act as a light source to enhance the outline of your fingerprint.

It isn’t a OnePlus’ phone launch if the company didn’t reveal an added feature its phones. It was the OnePlus 5 which brought dual cameras, OnePlus 5T brought a buttonless front panel and the OnePlus 6 came introduced the notch. And now we have official confirmation that the OnePlus 6T will feature an in-display fingerprint scanner.

With a launch expected to happen in the new few weeks, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau in a forum post has officially confirmed that the OnePlus 6T will welcome the in-display fingerprint scanning technology which will be called Screen Unlock by OnePlus. The screen Unlock will work in such a way as to encompass a wide array of software processes and hardware components turned to work perfectly.

The Screen Unlock technology will be powered by a new optical fingerprint module which comprises of a small lens that accurately registers your fingerprint as it presses down on the cover glass. Upon pressing, the screen in and around the area lights up to act as a light source to enhance the outline of your fingerprint, enabling the sensor to accurately read its exact dimensions and shape. The fingerprint information is then stored in Snapdragon 945’s Trust Zone section to ensure authenticity and actively defend against false patterns.

About the company’s latest breakthrough, Lau said “Through the use of several software algorithms, Screen Unlock will learn to recognize your fingerprint with higher accuracy through extended use. Screen Unlock marks a momentous leap forward in unlock technology, delivering unmatched speed and convenience”.

Lau added by saying “Screen Unlock has been in development for a long time. We first tried to implement it on the OnePlus 5T. Early prototypes featured a 1st generation optical fingerprint module. Though much larger in size than the 2nd generation model found on the OnePlus 6T, it struggled to hit a consistently high recognition rate. Now, after continuous testing and refining, we are finally ready to share Screen Unlock with the world. I cannot wait for you to experience Screen Unlock on the OnePlus 6T”.
