Gionee A1 receives its first OTA update, brings floating window for YouTube, bug fixes and more

The new update will create a ‘Selfiestan’ folder in the image gallery of every A1 smartphone. All the selfies clicked with the device will be automatically saved in that folder.

Gionee A1 which was launched last month for a price of Rs 19,999 has started receiving its first (Over The Air) update. The company claims that the new update brings in a host of features users to enjoy music, videos and taking selfies on the year’s first flagship. The new update will create a ‘Selfiestan’ folder in the image gallery of every A1 smartphone. All the selfies clicked with the device will be automatically saved in that folder.

Further, the new update also provides a provision where you can watch both YouTube and Local videos in a common video player. Further, the update also brings a new floating window for YouTube through which one can watch a YouTube video while navigating through the smartphone’s interface. This OTA update will also allow users to create their own album in a music library.

Besides, the new update brings some minor bug fixes and enhancements along with a customised suspend button and updated Google security patch. At the time of review, we found a couple of bugs and glitches in the UI. With this latest update, we hope Gionee has managed to fix it.

Talking about the specifications, Gionee A1 offers a 5.5-inch full with 1920×1080 pixel resolution and is powered by a quad-core MediaTek 6755 Helio P10 processor, along with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The smartphone also comes with an option to expand the storage to 128GB via card slot.

On the camera front, the smartphone has a 13-megapixel rear camera with auto-focus, F2.0, 1/3.06 inches, 5P lens, flash and a 16-megapixel front camera with fixed focus, F2.0, 1/3.06 inches, 5P lens, selfie flash.

The smartphone runs on 7.0 Nougat operating system and is backed up by a 4,010 mAh battery. On the connectivity front, the device support dual-SIM, LTE, Wi-Fi, 4.1, GPS, and micro USB. The handset measures 154.5 x 76.5 x 8.5 mm and weighs 182 g.

Recently, Gionee also claimed that it has received a total of 74,682 pre-orders in the first ten days of pre-booking period. The company claims that this figure if from March 31, 2017 – April 9, 2017, and the pre-orders are worth Rs 150 crore in total.
